"Offshore Challenge" -- 7 Races April through October 2010
Sailing
beyond the jetties, racing along the coast, returning home at night or
staying out -- this year's Offshore Challenge offers race
opportunities ranging from 30 mile day sails to a 215 mile regatta.
The Offshore Sailing Challenge is designed to provide sailors who have not experienced ocean sailing, as well as those who have, the opportunity to log long distance racing and build their competence in handling their boats offshore. Entries will have the opportunity to race in the spinnaker or non-spinnaker class with their appropriate PHRF rating. Awards will be made for each race as well as overall for the series. Participants will be given the opportunity to join in our "fish" allowance in which a time allowance will be awarded based on the measurement of ANY fish caught.
Very favorable dockage rates will be available at the destination marinas and for "party" time. Good food and drinks will be the "order of the day" for all overnight venues.
In addition, a safety seminar is being planned during the racing season which will give all sailors an opportunity to hone their safety skills. Details are found on the CORA website.
Entry is open to all boats 29 feet and over.

by class for each event and for the season finalists will be made. All
participants will be given the opportunity to drop any one ocean race
and one overnight race and still be eligible for the season overall
awards.

Every two years (odd) all past and present OSA students are welcome to join our crew in the C2B (Charleston to Bermuda) Race.
In the 2009 race, an OSA student-crewed boat won First Place, receiving the coveted Bermuda Governor's Cup.
The eighth running of this classic blue water
voyage will depart from Charleston, South Carolina in May 2011 and finish in June.
The adventure begins with 6 days of training in March. The first 3-day weekend will be spent preparing for the C2B and participating in a local race. The second 3-day weekend will consist of final prep, safety drills and an offshore overnight. For 3 days prior to the event you again join your crew for race trip planning and preparation. Then you set sail and race like the wind.
The C2B was founded in 1997. This unique event challenges
sailors to navigate the 777 nautical miles between Charleston and
Bermuda at a time of year known for tricky, unpredictable weather.
Simply known as the C2B, the race has acquired a reputation of
focusing on fun. The Royal Bermuda Yacht Club has played an
instrumental role in popularizing the event. The C2B has always been an inclusive event, welcoming boats new and
old, large and small. Previous entries have included an Open-60, Swan
45, Cal 40, Santa Cruz 70, and a Cheoy Lee 31. Every seaworthy boat 30
feet and longer is welcome.
The Charleston Ocean Racing Association
handles race committee duties. The owner and organizing
authority for the race is the South Carolina Maritime Foundation
(SCMF).
