LEARNING TO SAIL

"We could have met in a boardroom.  But sailing as teams is symbolic of the way we work together: teamwork, competition, rewards, and fun!"

Charleston Harbor team sailing is a natural and memorably enjoyable way in which to practice teambuilding skills on all levels...

...from leadership skills to peer cooperation. People who have been sailing together develop a special bond: they’ve accomplished a goal, learned a life skill and shared an exciting adventure.

Our academy’s instructors have many years’ experience teaching students to sail intelligently and calmly. Intelligence and calm are the key ingredients to a successful sailing experience.

Your group will be delighted with the results and memories of their sailing adventure.

Non-Confrontational Leadership:
We train captains and crew members to communicate important and often urgent instructions and situations to one another in a supportive manner. As important as it is to quickly and precisely follow the captain’s orders when under sail, it is equally important to the smooth functioning of the boat for stress levels to remain low at all times. The most effective crews are those that have common goals, a very important one of which is a non-confrontational style of interaction.

Team Problem Solving:
Many situations on a sailboat benefit from team input; your group will enjoy sailing in competition with the other sailboats in your regatta because everyone will have an important function in their sailboat’s smooth sailing. Clear communication of intent and outcome will be a key goal of the day’s experience. Under certain conditions of cruising, everyone’s opinion is equally valuable.

Your team will be excited about the prosect of sailing together, and after your event will share meaningful memories of cruising and racing as a team.  We won't be surprised if your group's first time on the water with us isn't its last.
